Soliloquy - Dream, Travel, Disconnect, Soar

Dream, Travel, Disconnect, Soar

Recollect your old dreams
When you and your pet dragon
Flared up the night sky
And soared

It’s time to hunt your pet
Set out on that adventure quest
Unite your destiny
With you

Head to the Paestum ruins
Where the horses of the trident
Await their master
Wild, free

Tame them like old Joe
Bring out that six-string solo
Scream like Steven
Dream on …

The horses will gallop on
All over your old wounds and chasms
Build arch bridges
Make paths

A gate is where they stop
Where you finish the tiled mosaic
Of childhood goals
Left unmet

The real journey begins
Here where the outside world ends
Map your mind
Delve deep

Always note down your joy
For it’s a happy happy place to be
Set them to a rhyme
Make poems

Post them to all you love
Those faraway beaming pinnacles
Are time travelling
Post boxes

Walk on and on till you can
But stop yourself before you fall
Here’s where it waits
Your dragon

But you cannot see it
No one ever has; it has to be felt
As it sets aflame
You, within

This day you’ll transform
Into that dragon of yore you dreamt
On untethered wings
Fly, soar …

And then, fly on …

Dad Goes To Minnesota

Dad Goes To Minnesota

Daddy went fishing in Minnesota
The summer, three years ago
Came home back a year later
Cops of the state in tow

Every day the story goes
When he sits by the fireplace
Cold to bones and for the shore
He lead a screaming race

It so happened that one day
He sat on a plane to Minneapolis
And before they landed he fell
In love with the city’s Nokomis

So off he went in a rickety boat
And singin' his song he rowed
Jumped for joy at his first perch
And cast the oars overboard

They sent a boat to bail him out
After he’d lost all hope
They said you’d better try the Francis
It shares the name with The Pope

So off he went in a rented van
Forgot the map unaware
Missed the turn after Annandale
And wound up on Pomme de Terre

It was twilight when he set foot
In the potato ghost town
No one knows what he saw there
He says she came in a gown

And she asked of him, go fetch
Me my ring from the quagmire
Where they lay me down
On the bank of the Esquagamah

And then the living fragment
Left in my Moosehead of a man
Well, I think daddy ran away
As fast as only a mustang can

He went back to the Nokomis
For another daring misadventure
Scuffled over the boat rental
And got the Sheriff his denture

He came home in grand procession
In that battered rental car
Followed by sirens red and blue
Glad daddy made this far

Today he sits by the fireplace
And retells on Schubert’s sounds
May God bless that old Sheriff
Whose dreams my daddy hounds

The assignment topic was 5 lakes from the state of Minnesota - Nokomis, Francis, Annandale, Pomme de Terre and Esquagamah

Soliloquy - Facing Fears

Facing Fears

What scares you old friend?
That you dare not look me in the eye
As you answer the questions that pry
Open the can of worms you hold
Inside your unmanly chest so cold
You may only in me confide
Your time is not yours to bide
So lift up your chin … there …
And speak the load you bear

What scares you old friend?
That your thoughts may not contain
Your silly sins that make you abstain
The beauty of life and love
Sacred as the white dove
You’ve buried yourself deep
Yet every day you dig and weep
Plant a new seed, grow a tree
Absolve of nothing to be free

What scares you old friend?
Is it your incoherence, strangely benign
Or a luminous torch you can’t shine
As darkness blocks your path
To the river of the sacred bath
Where you dream to wash away
Your past and rise to a new day
I remind you, the river runs dry
Face me, it’s not a time to cry

I know what scares you old friend
Look at me as I look at you
Blessed you are in a blissful few
To have a friend who knows what runs
Through your blood and scalded burns
Of you, I am but the whole part
What lies unseen but can’t drift apart
Yes, you may again in me confide
Together we create time and turn the tide

Soliloquy - On Circles

On Circles

You’ve traveled this far
You’ve a long way to go
The path lies ahead
And like the one you came by
The one which exists no more
This path will pass through places
You’ve been to before
You may want to walk through again
Right up your old wrongs
Relive your past glories
Or take a futile detour
Old places dot these too

There’s no map you can use
Except the one in your heart
Be guided by it and face
Whatever the path shows up
Beware that a tempting detour
Is just a way to while your time
And spend it on things trivial
While that those you avoid
Await with unsatiated hunger
Await with a burning pyre
For your imminent arrival

You’ve burnt many bridges
As you sauntered past burning hearts
Ignited by your malice
Fueled by your cowardice
To do the right thing
In the face of your enemy
In the face of your ego
Pinning and twisting
The innocence of your life
To suit the fabled wayfarer
You were to become

All that awaits you now
Is all that you left behind
And strewn amidst these you’ll find
Blossoms of a virgin kind
But you will not see them
No, not yet for sure
For your vision is clouded
For your mind is afraid
Of old unjust wasteful conquests
And old engagements that await
When your path turns a full circle

Have some courage my friend
For very few venture this far
Undo all wrongs but it wont
Unwind time lost chasing
The complete logical end
Of fables you left midway
But then you will lay in peace
Full of love and full of you
Full of stories meant for few
Not the lost ones who drift
But the ones who dare to endure

All, for the peace of a finished circle

Rail Tracks - Existentialist Version

Rails For An Existentialist

Our lives run like these railway tracks
With what aim do we stretch
And for whom, who tells?
And whose will binds us here
Confined, conformed to each other?
I say let’s pry out these shackles
And go our separate ways
Masters of our own free will
We will be as free as the day

Rail Tracks - Optimist Version

Rails For An Optimist

Our lives run like these railway tracks
Together we trace the world
Always this close, always one
Never an inch apart than we are
Up through the icy hills
Down the dark tunnels
Soaring through the flower fields
And over the bridges of despair
We will be as close as today

Rail Tracks - Realist Version

Rails For A Realist

Our lives run like these railway tracks
We are farthest from each other today
As to what I remember of the past
And what I foresee of the future
When we will be one together
Yet when we were there
And yet again when we reach
That unspoken undreamt destiny
We will be as far away as today
